Book Review : ผลงานของนักธรณีวิทยาชาวอิตาลี โดยต้นฉบับคือ “Coccodrilli al Polo Nord e Ghiacci all’Equatore: Storia del clima  della Terra dale origini ai giorni nostri” ได้รับการแปลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษโดย Alice Kilgarriff  หนังสือเริ่มอธิบายถึงกลไกการทำงานของระบบภูมิอากาศโลก ทั้งปัจจัยภายนอก เช่น กำลังส่องสว่างของดวงอาทิตย์ วงโคจรของโลก และปัจจัยภายใน เช่น การเคลื่อนที่ของเปลือกโลก เป็นต้น แม้ว่าสภาพภูมิอากาศจะผันผวนอย่างมากตลอดประวัติศาสตร์อันยาวนานของโลก แต่สถานการณ์ปัจจุบันของมีสองปัจจัยที่น่ากังวล ประการแรก อุณหภูมิที่สูงขึ้นในช่วงห้าสิบปีที่ผ่านมานั้นรวดเร็วและรุนแรงขึ้น ประการที่สอง ประชากรมนุษย์โลกมีจำนวนมากกว่าในอดีตมาก และประชากรเหล่านี้ต้องการปัจจัยสี่เพื่อความอยู่รอด เพื่อที่จะเข้าใจถึงสิ่งที่กำลังเผชิญอยู่ จึงมีความจำเป็นต้องเข้าใจกลไกการทำงานของสภาพภูมิอากาศและกิจกรรมของมนุษย์ที่ส่งผลกระทบต่อโลก โดยที่เราปฏิเสธไม่ได้ว่า โลกไม่ได้เป็นของเรา แต่เราต่างหากที่เป็นของโลก
