กฎหมายอวกาศ (Space Law) เป็นกฎหมายเกี่ยวกับการใช้ทรัพยากรในอวกาศบนหลักการว่า ทุกประเทศมีเสรีภาพในการสำรวจและใช้อวกาศส่วนนอก (Outer Space) รวมทั้งดวงจันทร์และเทหะในท้องฟ้า (Celestial Bodies) บนพื้นฐานแห่งความเสมอภาคเท่าเทียมกัน ซึ่งตามกฎหมายอวกาศระหว่างประเทศ (Outer Space Treaty 1967) ถือเป็นสมบัติร่วมกันของมนุษยชาติ ทุกประเทศมีเสรีภาพในการสำรวจและใช้ประโยชน์ โดยไม่มีชาติใดสามารถอ้างสิทธิ์ครอบครองดวงจันทร์หรือเทหะวัตถุเหล่านี้ได้
หนังสือแบ่งเป็น 2 ส่วนคือ ปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นในสถานการณ์ปัจจุบัน (Current Problems) และมุมมองและการกำกับดูแลในอนาคต (Perspectives for Future Regulation) ภายใต้การอยู่ร่วมกันในอวกาศอย่างยั่งยืน (Space Sustainability) ซึ่งกำลังวิวัฒนาการไปตามเทคโนโลยีและผลประโยชน์ทางเศรษฐกิจ โดยไม่ทำให้เกิดสงครามและขยะเต็มวงโคจร ถือเป็นความท้าทายระดับโลกที่ต้องอาศัยความร่วมมือทั้งในแง่กฎหมาย เทคโนโลยี และจิตสำนึกร่วมกัน
