Abstract            : Objective: To evaluate the long-term persistence of anti-hepatitis B surface (HBs) antibodies and the response to a HB challenge re-vaccination in children who had received a primary series of DTaP-IPV-HB-PRP∼T (Hexaxim™) or DTaP-IPV-HB/PRP∼T (Infanrix hexa™).

Methods: Two cohorts of participants who had previously received HB vaccine at birth followed by either DTaP-IPV-HB-PRP∼T or DTaP-IPV-HB/PRP∼T co-administered with PCV7 at 2, 4, 6 months of age in a randomized, Phase III, observer-blind study in Thailand, were followed up for anti-HBs antibodies (geometric mean concentrations [GMCs] and seroprotection [SP] rate [% of participants with a titer ≥10 mIU/mL]) at 12-18 months of age and 9-10 years of age. A monovalent HB challenge re-vaccination was administered at 9-10 years of age and the anamnestic response was evaluated.

Results: Anti-HBs GMCs and SP rates in the DTaP-IPV-HB-PRP∼T and DTaP-IPV-HB/PRP∼T groups were high and similar post-primary vaccination series (2477 mIU/mL and 99.5% and 2442 mIU/mL and 99.5%, respectively) and declined to a similar extent in each group at 12-18 months (154.5 mIU/mL and 90.8% and 162.3 mIU/mL and 96.5%, respectively). Antibody levels further declined at 9-10 years of age (13.3 mIU/mL and 49.3% and 8.0 mIU/mL and 42.9%) and a strong anamnestic response occurred in each group post-HB challenge re-vaccination (92.8% and 98.7%, respectively).

Conclusion: The kinetics of long-term anti-HBs antibody persistence were similar following a primary series of DTaP-IPV-HB-PRP∼T or DTaP-IPV-HB/PRP∼T. The response to a subsequent HB challenge re-vaccination was strong and similar in each group, demonstrating persisting immune memory.

Abstract            :  A 71-year-old man presented with drowsiness three hours before admission. Stroke or hepatic encephalopathy was suspected but computed tomography (CT) scan of the brain revealed no abnormality. Cardiac auscultation discovered pansystolic murmurs at apex radiated to axilla. Plain chest roentgenogram showed markedly cardiac enlargement and electrocardiogram (ECG) revealed atrial fibrillation. Transthoracic echocardiography was performed to detect the etiology of cardiac enlargement, but it discovered a dilated coronary sinus instead. Finally, a very rare case of persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) with absence of right superior vena cava (RSVC) anomaly that is also known as isolated PVSVC was incidentally demonstrated by transesophageal echocardiography. The patient also had severe mitral and tricuspid regurgitations. Diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and suspected cirrhosis of liver were also found. He was treated for hepatic encephalopathy, which is not related to PLSVC and he recovered uneventfully. PLSVC should be expected if any intracardiac venous procedures are going to be performed such as central venous catheterization, device implantation, or coronary artery bypass surgery.

Abstract            :  Objective: Inflammation is a process of injuries caused by physical, chemical, and biological factors. Nitric oxide (NO) plays an important role in the regulation of various pathological and pathophysiological processes. Overproduction of NO induces tissue damage associated with acute and chronic inflammations. This study was conducted to determine the phytochemical composition and the NO inhibitory properties of Nelumbo nucifera extracts
in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-stimulated macrophage cell line.
Methods: The dried leaf, stalk, and flower materials of roseum plenum and album plenum (AP) were extracted with 95% ethanol solvents. The phytochemical compounds of the extraction were analysed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The cytotoxic assay of extracts against
macrophage cells was conducted using resazurin. The NO was determined using LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells to measure inhibitory activity of extract on the production of NO.
Results: The extracts from Lotus, which exhibited the non-cytotoxic to the RAW264.7 cells. The AP-stalk extracts were capable to reduce the NO level in LPS-activated RAW264.7 cells. GC-MS analysis of AP-stalk extraction revealed pharmacologically active compounds.
Conclusion: The results conduct that the AP-stalk extract effectively inhibited the NO production and may be useful in preventing inflammatory diseases mediated by excessive production of NO. Bio-active phytoconstituents from AP stalk extract could potentially be used for anti-inflammation.
These data also suggest that AP-stalk extract may serve as a good indicator of the pharmacological activities of medicinal plants.

Abstract            :  Objective: The aims of this study were to screen the phytonutrient constituents and investigate their anti-aging property of leaves and bark of
Glycosmis pentaphylla (Retz.) DC. (GP).
Methods: GP is the medicinal plant which used as traditional medicine. Glycosmis pentaphylla leaves (GPL) and Glycosmis pentaphylla bark (GPB) of
GP were extracted with ethanol. The gas chromatography–mass spectrometry was used for phytonutrients analysis. The anti-aging properties were
performed using ABTS assay, deoxyribose degradation assay, bovine serum albumin (BSA)-fructose model, and matrix metalloproteinase 1 (MMP-1)
inhibitory activity.
Results: The important phytonutrients of GPL were α-tocopherol, linolenic acid, squalene, stigmasterol, and β-amyrin and for GPB were α-tocopherol,
phytol, campesterol, stigmasterol, dictamine, and γ-sitosterol. The percentage inhibition of GPL and GPB extracts at various concentrations was
between 16.57–76.05 and 20.66-78.81 by ABTS assay, 68.24–90.06 and 73.83–96.64% by deoxyribose degradation assay, 4.24–99.98 and 54.81–
99.94 by BSA-fructose model, and 6.31–81.55 and 1.06–74.45 by MMP-1 inhibitory activity, respectively.
Conclusion: Leaves and bark extracts of GP (Retz.) DC. are good sources of important phytonutrients and have the potential in anti-aging property.
